Peer Mentoring

In the Faculty of Communication and Culture we "think differently" - why not "learn differently" too?

General Studies 501.35, Collaborative Learning and Peer Mentoring, is a one half-course equivalent credit course open to third- and four-year Communication and Culture students. As a participant, read about and discuss collaborative learning and mentorship in higher education and apply this knowledge as you mentor fellow students within a course you have taken in Communication and Culture.

Why become a peer mentor?

  • Collaborate with an instructor you respect to enhance learning in a course you enjoyed
  • Co-design your own mentoring role to suit your talents and vision
  • Receive personal guidance and mentorship from two or more instructors
  • Get "behind the scenes" insight into higher education teaching and learning
  • Combine academic learning with practical experience
  • Learn the material more deeply in the course where you serve
  • Develop leadership communication skills
  • Prepare yourself for graduate teaching assistant roles or professional mentoring roles

What does a peer mentor do?
