Last week, I got to get my new and improved, involved student feet wet!
Remember I mentioned "Student for a Day"? Well turns out it is one of the neatest Faculty initiatives. High school students get to sign up to come experience U of C for a day! Each participant is paired with a university buddy (ie. me!). They go to class with them, have lunch with them, and the high school student also gets to meet some other important CnC figures during a session that is geared towards them.
The time commitment was minimum and the job was really easy ... how could I say no. Plus this was one person that would think I was cool (hopefully...).
I'm happy to report that this volunteer experience was positive and that today mini-cc was born. This girl seemed to know more about U of C than I did. She was so keen and so fresh. She made me remember what it was to be excited about completing an undergrad. I'm excited again! I'm an undergrad...I'm living the dream; mini-cc still has to get accepted!
I took her to my GNST 300 class with Glasberg. He was insane as usual (insane good, not insane bad). I don't think mini-cc blinked the entire lecture. Afterwards she went on and on about how university was everything she imagined. She was even interested in hearing about the paper I'm writing for the class.
In conclusion I learned more than mini-cc did. She reminded me that being an undergrad in this Faculty was an accomplishment in itself. I should be treasuring my time here...no matter how sleep deprived I am.
Until next time,
ccGirl
Spotted: Mr. Mysterious had his own mini me during "Student for a Day". We were in the lounge (SS311) picking up our high schoolers at the same time and he flashed me a smile. I melted...and I'm pretty sure tears came to my eyes and my smile looked like an overexcited hyena. What is your name Mr. Mysterious?
