Your Vote DOES Count

February 8, 2008

ccGirl here,

I love the smell of students making the most of their post-secondary experience in the morning!

Okay, so I admit last year at this time I never gave a second look to the poster covered hallways, the numerous gauntlet stories, and the enthusiastic candidates campaigning at ever corner, but this year is different. This year I'm involved and I can finally understand the excitement behind the Students' Union General Election.

When I started watching the keen candidates hang up posters last week I got curious and did some research. Elections are always right before reading week and nomination deadlines are always at the end of January. And you don't even have to get up and get dressed to vote...you vote through your Student Centre account. I know the word Student Centre rings terror in the ears of many, but apparently it is really easy!

I overheard Christina Rontynen, our current Faculty Rep, chatting with the Law and Society Association President in the Clubs Office this afternoon. She was telling him that our Faculty Representative for the 2008-2009 school year was acclaimed, but there are still lots of candidates that need our votes. She also explained that many of this year's SU executives only won by a few votes. So your vote DOES count!

You never know, maybe next year I'll be the next new face running for a SU position. I hear our current CnC Faculty Representative has a lot of fun ... just look at her jumping for joy.

See you at the polls February 12, 13 and 14 blog readers!

Until next time,
ccGirl
