Master of Networking

March 28, 2008

ccGirl here,

I'm so glad that I took Christina's advice and attended the Networking Gala last night. Yes, it meant I had to wake up earlier today to get an assignment done but it was so worth it.

Events like that are what being an engaged student is all about. Not only did I get to meet and mingle with alumni and industry professionals but I met so many new students.

I walked in and headed right for Christina. A room full of people still isn't really my thing. She introduced to some other students and I never felt so connected. The room had over fifty of my peers and they all had the same questions as I did. We all were wondering what to do with our degrees, we all wanted encouragement and advice, and we all wanted to start making valuable connections.

The panellists all had unique career paths. They all used networking to get where they are today and they all agreed that the most important thing was to figure out our passion and pursue it.

My next mission ... find that passion! I know I'm good at a lot of things but I want to gain some experience and figure out what I'm passionate about in the workplace.

Maybe a trip to the Friendly Neighbourhood Career Advisor, David Cataford, is in my near future?! And for sure some more engaging extra-curricular activities. You guys can't believe how excited I am about CnC; our alumni are really inspiring.

Stay tuned blog readers. And start networking asap.

Until next time,
ccGirl

Business Card Count: 8 (I know!!! So exciting, hey?!! You all would have been proud of my networking skills.)
