The Faculty of Communication and Culture's Head Start program offers you an opportunity to sample university learning early by taking one of our three most popular Communication and Culture courses in summer term (July 2 - August 14, 2008).

The Head Start Program allows participants to:

• ease into university life by taking a single course during a term when the university is less busy
• start in a smaller class with more personal attention
• engage in special orientation events
• receive personal guidance from the Director of Students, Dr. Dawn Johnston
• get a course ahead and take a lighter load in Fall or Winter-or bank it to lighten your course load in future years

Head Start Courses Offered in Communication and Culture

To accommodate your summer work schedule, choose one of the courses listed below, offered during the day, on the weekend, or in the evening.

Communications Studies 201: Introduction to Commu­nications Studies

Learn how people interact and build each others' realities, and how popular culture shapes who we are and how we see ourselves.
Mondays and Wednesdays 11:00 am - 1:45 pm

Film 201: Introduction to Film Studies

Learn why films affect us the way they do, and how popular culture meets serious art. Study how films work-medium, story, photography, movement, editing, sound, and acting.
Mondays and Wednesdays 6:30 pm - 9:15 pm and Thursdays 6:30 pm - 8:20 pm

Law and Society 201: Introduction to Legal Studies

Learn how law regulates society and shapes our lives. Study the basis of law in ethics, in social needs, and in relationships of power and co-operation.
Saturdays 10:00 am - 3:30 pm Note: Course has pre-session study
