Student for a Day - Law and Society

Session offered: Tuesday, November 18, 2008: 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm

                         Thursday, November 20, 2008: 1:00 pm -5:00 pm

1:00 pm- Arrive at the University, meet program coordinator at Communication and Culture Faculty Office (Social Sciences Building 110)

1:10 pm - Visit the Communication and Culture Lounge for a “Student Lounge Session”

Learn about the student experience in Communication and Culture, career opportunities relating to Communication and Culture degree programs, and how to apply for admission. A great chance to have your questions answered in person by university staff, professors, and students!

1:45 pm – Meet your student ambassador

2:00 pm - Attend Law and Society 201 course lecture, accompanied by a current student.

Offered with Dr. Maureen Hiebert Law and Society 201 is the overview of the role of law in society. Examination of different concepts of law. Study of legal rules, institutions, processes and personnel in social context. Discussion of construction and exercise of the power of law. Emphasis on Canadian law and legal system.

 

3:15 pm - Enjoy a complimentary coffee/snack and talk with a current Communication and Culture student. Ask him or her questions and get an “insider’s” perspective about what it’s like to be a Communication and Culture student!

4:00 pm - Take a campus tour and explore the university

5:00 pm - Head Home and tell everyone about the great experience you had at the University of Calgary , as a Communication and Culture Student for a Day!
