The Latin American Studies program is a collaborative offering of the Faculties of Communication and Culture, Humanities and Social Sciences.

The program provides a specialized Latin American expertise embracing language, culture, politics, institutions and background. Career opportunities for graduates are found in business and government.

 

Why Study Latin America?

What will the LAST degree program give me?

     

The Program will provide:

  • knowledge: a broad and informed view of Latin America
  • Español: Spanish language skills
  • independent research and writing skills
  • cultural sensitivity based on experiential courses given in Latin America

 

The graduates of the program are:

  • qualified to analyze the major contemporary issues in the region
  • international, with personal experience and networks in the region
  • skilled researchers on regional issues
  • trained in professional report writing and oral skills
  • bilingual with intercultural skills

  • Get involved! The Latin American Studies Undergraduate Club organises salsa parties, slide shows, movies, invited speakers, and piñatas!
 

Is there any funding available?

     
Yes!

International Student Grants are awarded on a competitive basis for study in Latin America.
The Alberta Chapter of the Canadian Council for the Americas $500 Essay Prize is awarded annually (in collaboration with the Faculty of Social Sciences).
