Using audio, video, and still images, Dr. Rusted's talk will explore the history of the Stampede and its key components. During Dr. Rusted’s presentation, “The Stampede: Representing the West in Cultural Performance,” audience members will learn about the excitement of the opening day parade; see how Calgary's population participates by celebrating in their communities, dressing in traditional Western Canadian style, and serving up pancake breakfasts; and learn about the issues in negotiating what the “Canadian West” means for contemporary audiences. | |
